When you have 3 illustrators working together, as is the case with LESJEANCLODE, who is made up of 3 French illustrators, Nicolas, Mathieu et Sebastien, your work is going to be interesting. In the case of LESJEANCLODE, the work can be dizzingly good. And, they even tried some graffiti at some point.

Recycled Skateboard Deck Art Comes to NYC!

nyc - recycled skateboard deck

If you live in NYC, this is one show you're not going to want to miss! Starting April 16th and running until May 14th, you're going to see skateboard decks like you've never seen them before. Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be presenting Future Primitive, new works by Tokyo-based artist Haroshi. You may remember Haroshi as that madly talented self-taught artist who takes old skateboard decks and turns them into incredibly cool works of art. (See older post here.) This will be the artist's very first solo exhibition in the United States and first solo gallery show outside of Japan ever!

Everything is getting tightened up at MOCA's Art In the Streets at the moment, and just one walk around the building this morning we found pieces by Os Gemeos, AMAZE, and BLADE, and LEE and FUTURA were putting touhces on the massive mural on the side of the Geffen. Inside is amazing, but more on that later. Pictures after the jump . . .

Scotland-born, Austria based illustrator Grant Coghill has been creating skateboard graphics, designing apparel, and creating a body of work of collage and large-scale canvases. After extensive travels throughout Asia, Coghill's work is influenced by wildlife, spontaneous reaction, nocturnal life, abstract art, Indonesian shadow puppets, unheard of bands, tribal costume, folk tales, Austrian krampus, and bright spice colors. And he draws a great shark.

A TALE OF THREE CITIES

The Kayo Corp. keeps it fresh with their Mid-Century series skateboard decks by Organika. We rather dig these graphic representations of three of the planet’s dopest cities. Peruse this for the complete bold & artful collection.

Remember when water used to be free? People would think that you would be crazy to sell something that is offered free. Crazy is beyond it’s meaning, because look at us currently buying bottled water. Even though H2O does not taste different, the bottle does on the eyes. There has been a huge amount of companies that are selling bottled water that contain water from glaciers, mountains, springs, and sewers (just kidding.) At this point and time we are becoming more and more dependent on a variety of drinks. Just look at your regular

Champion Pigeons

I agree with my studiomate Raul, these portraits of champion pigeons on the National Pigeon Association site are compellingly beautiful! It reminds me of one of my favorite books: The Fairest Fowl: Portraits of Championship Chickens.

How & Nosm in Los Angeles

Earlier this week, we showed you a video of How & Nosm at work in NYC, and yesterday, a few blocks from the MOCA, we found the pair working on this massive mural in Downtown Los Angeles. We don't want to show too much of the incomplete figure, but the details of this multi-storied mural are impressive.

The Paintings of Julien Beneyton

We were looking at Boogie's blog, the famed Brooklyn photographer, and found that he admired the paintings of Paris and Amsterdam -based artist, Julien Benetyon. Benetyon's style is to paint everyday people, subjects, and neighborhoods with a bit of urban and hip-hop influence. Hip-hop, from what we have read about the artist, is his biggest love.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: ALEX TROCHUT

We have posted pieces of Alex’s before, he is a true talent based out of Barcelona, Spain. His work is a balance between illustration and graphic design. Somehow he molds the two together and creates work that is beautiful and original. Underconsideration.com wrote a brief article about him that included a short sit-down interview.

You can view his work at www.alextrochut.com

The Ride Journal: Issue Four

The latest issue of the delicious cycling journal The Ride (No. 4) launched last week at Look Mum, No Hands!
We've been gently wheeling our way through it since then, and it's the usual brilliant mix of engaging stories and beautiful illustrations, from a whole range of bike folk. It's not showing up on their website at the time of writing, but you can pick it up from Magma in the meantime as well as a whole bunch of other places.
